Livestock production and grazing have had a significant effect on ecosystems in the Nordic countries.
These effects range from shaping valuable cultural landscapes to irreversible plant and soil losses.
With a renewed focus on the potential and need for sustainable utilisation of areas suitable for grazing, agricultural management and policies have to take into account aspects other than production volume and efficiency. This includes mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, protection of endangered and restoration of damaged ecosystems, maintenance of biotopes high in biodiversity, and enhancement of food security.
To meet these challenges we invite experts and policy-makers for a multi-disciplinary conference on grazing in a changing Nordic region and its contribution to climate change adaptation, food security, biodiversity and environmental issues, regional livelihoods, and other ecosystem services.
ORGANIZERS
This conference is organized by NordGen - the Nordic Genetic Resource Center
in cooperation with the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland

This conference would not have been possible without the financing of the Nordic Council of Ministers, through their Sustainable Development program.
